Gio’s Lions S.C.
Our mission is to provide developmental soccer opportunities to young men and women from the East Side of Chicago, Southside of Chicago, South Chicago suburbs, and Northwest Indiana, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
Gio's Lions S.C. was founded in the East Side of Chicago, an officially designated community area of the city, in 2017, by Savino Leon. The team’s original name was Lions S.C., the name was changed in 2020, after the passing of Mr. Leon's son, Gio.
On October 23, 2021, while attending his older brother's soccer game, kicking a ball around with his teammate, after they both played in their own game, Gio was hit by a car while crossing a street to retrieve an errant ball. The following day, with his family and loved ones by his side, Gio passed away in the hospital.
Following his passing the club was renamed to Gio's Lions S.C. in honor of his memory. In short...
